Oooooooooooooooooooo! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! You would have thought it was the 4th of July celebration! But instead of fireworks, all DFMS science students designed, built, and launched their very own paper rockets. Naysayers and detractors might think, "Big whoop. It's only paper." As of the writing of this article the team that won the Golden Rocket Award for farthest distance was two hundred and forty-one feet! After the friendly competition both inside and out, the sound of the Olympic John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" could be heard as the Golden Rocket trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners of each period. Rockets were launched, grit was tested and tears of joy were shed over the four days of determining the forces acting on a rocket and maximizing mass, aerodynamics, and force. What a great week to be a Diamondback!!
