Dear Diamond Fork Parents,
Pay Conroy, in his book My Reading Life, says this: “ If there is more important work than teaching, I hope to learn about it before I die.” Extending the thought, if there is a more difficult stretch for teachers than April and May, following spring break, I invite anyone to explain when. We have now used up nearly 160 of the 180 scheduled school days. With twenty school days left until summer break, we might understand if teachers are running a quart low on giddy-up-and-go. A DFJHS teacher with six classes per day has prepared and delivered 960 lessons, with 120 still to go. That same teacher has checked for understanding thousands of times, asked thousands of questions, considered multiple answers many times over, read stacks of papers, often into the night, created countless meaningful activities that promote student learning, and assigned grades for the different terms.
And yet they persevere. Perseverance is one of our five core values at DFJHS, and teacher embody the concept. They persevere not only because they have compassion for their students, but they have respect for the institution, they whole idea of an enlightened citizenry in America. They face each day with courage and integrity, closing the classroom door while upholding the public trust in meeting high expectations. We love our teachers and the work they do. This is a great time of year to tell a teacher thank you, to send a note or make a call and express appreciation for enduring to the end. We made it this far. Let’s all hang in there.

Poetry Out Loud: This Tuesday, May 5th, 7th graders will participate in a competition called "Poetry Out Loud." In their English classes, each student has selected a poem of their choice to memorize and perform in front of their class members. One student from each class will be selected to compete on May 5th. Parents, guardians, and friends are invited to attend the event. The competition begins at 9:00AM in the school cafetorium. All 7th graders will be there to cheer on their peers.
SPORTS
Track and Field: Diamond Fork track participated in a meet last Friday. Both the boys and the girls placed 2nd place overall. The following athletes won their relay events: Zachary Robison, Josh Sales, Dawson Stokes, Hayden Peirce, Kaitlyn Brooks, Brenna Melton, Kelcie Richmond, Kiara Ortiz, Josie Nelson and Jentri Braithwaite. Congratulations and good luck this week against Mt. Nebo!
