Dear Diamond Fork Parents,
In very few words, respect is the condition of being esteemed or honored. One of our five core values at DFJHS is respect. We can think highly of a person because of their positive qualities. We can have high regard for another person’s choices or decisions. Additionally, we can and should respect ourselves.
The writer Ralph Waldo Emerson simply states, “Men are respectable only as they respect.” Respect is a give and take, sometimes we must be the first to give respect to another just because they are part of the human race. We don’t always know others’ trials and challenges. We may know very little about them, but we can give a measure of respect and maybe even give a listen. We can learn a great deal if we respect someone enough to listen to them.

Math Curriculum:
This message outlines resources available for your student to help master the material in the math curriculum. Your student will be hand carrying home their access code letters for the online workbook and the resource ALEKS. These quick-link resources can be found on the school’s website main page, as well as under the “Parent” tab at www.nebo.edu. During this and next week, your student will be trained to use the username and password. Please keep this information on file for future reference when you receive it.

Orchestra and Band Concerts:

National Jr. Honor Society: On Friday, December 5, a group of 12 students from our school went to the Central Utah Veteran’s Home in Payson to assist in a Christmas shopping activity. Many of the residents in the home are unable to shop for gifts for their family members so local businesses donated money or gifts that they could give to their loved ones. Our students helped bring the residents from their rooms to the “shopping area” and pushed their wheelchairs around the tables and assisted in the selection process. Students also provided gift wrapping services and handled the necessary paperwork to make sure each gift gets to the correct family member. Many of our 9th grade students made Christmas cards for the veterans to write in to put with the gifts they selected. There were lots of comments about how nice the cards looked and how much they appreciated the cards. This was an amazing experience for our students to meet these fine veterans who gave so much to protect and preserve our freedoms. It was an honor and privilege to serve them as part of this generous and caring activity.
Teen Living Baby Week: During the week of December 8th-12th, the Teen Living class will be carrying “Flour Sack Babies.” The focus of this activity in the curriculum is centered on preventing teenage pregnancy and developing an awareness of the responsibilities and demands of parenthood. Too many teenagers are becoming pregnant and dropping out of school. The goal is to reduce those numbers through early intervention and awareness and this activity is one step toward that goal.
SPORTS
Basketball: Girls and Boys Basketball at Salem JHS on Thursday, December 11 at 3:30pm
Wrestling: Home match against Mt. Nebo JHS on Wednesday, December 10 at 3:30pm
Swim: MMHS will battle SHHS and SHS at Springville on Saturday, December 13, time TBD. We have 9 students on the MMHS swim team.

Did you know...We have D-Back Tutors?
Thirty to fifty students are chosen each term and they are asked to participate as a volunteer tutor. Tutors are chosen by a need to have a connection to the school, a need to serve others, or by excellent grades and citizenship. These tutors go to local elementary schools to tutor students who are in need of extra support in their studies. We currently partner with Park and Larsen Elementaries. The tutors go once a week during E-time from 10:05 - 10:55 for the term they are selected.
