Dear Diamond Fork Parents,

Many of us can recall a teacher or other educator throughout our academic career who gave us a gift of knowledge. Some teachers even shared with us tidbits of wisdom on other topics, as well. Often, we may not even remember the academic concept teachers taught us, but we remember how they made us feel. Teachers have a way of validating and frequently helping students to explore or find their talents, skills, abilities and at times, their very self-worth.

Carl Jung, a noted psychiatrist submitted, “One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.”

As I observe teachers with their classes and those relationships constructed upon academic building blocks, I also see student personalities come alive and thrive. I know our teachers are forever changing how students experience the world through engaging content and genuine kindness.

At this time of year, may we think a little more frequently on gratitude for what we have? Diamond Fork Junior High has the great fortune of retaining teachers not easily forgotten. Teachers who engage students in meaningful ways and who leave a memory with each student.

We hope you’ll take the opportunity this season to show gratitude for what you have and what our students have. From this side of the school building, we are grateful for parents and the trust you place in us as we work with your most precious possessions. Thank you.

Also, it's a fun opportunity to see the students dressed up, and looking their best. They find that their social behaviors change with the atmosphere.

Did you know…The counselors hold a special pizza party lunch several Fridays throughout the year?  A different student is selected to participate each time.  He or she then invites up to 10 friends to join the party.  During the lunch the counselors ask 3 specific questions – 1.  What do you like about our school?  2.  What don’t you like about our school?  3.  What improvements would you make and how?  This panel of students helps us to see things from the student perspective and to make changes that would be most beneficial to our student body.
