Has this ever happened to you? You’re walking down the hall with an armful of books for your next class. You turn the corner and all of a sudden someone come crashing into you sending all of your papers flying. Without hesitation the student bends down and immediately starts to help you pick up the papers. This happens all the time at Diamond Fork Jr. High. I am not meaning the crashing into each other, I’m talking about helping out each other. Diamond Fork has 5 core values that not only the students focus on but also the teachers and administrators. These core values are Courage, Respect, Integrity, Perseverance and Compassion. I am going to recognize some students and how they show these values.
Courage- Savannah Wilson is always having a positive attitude and helping new kids find their classes. Hadlie Porter helped a girl pick up her stuff even after the bell rang for class. Cienn had gone out of her way to help a student to find where their class was when they had forgotten.
Respect- Darick Waren was in before class started helping set up chairs. Payton Kelepeolo voulentered to help a substitute teacher without even being asked. Makayla Cowly stopped and help pick up someones papers when no one else would help.
Integrity- A student was walking to class and saw that the garbage can was tipped over so he helped pick up the garbage. Mason Allen turned in a bag of chips after getting two out of the vending machine. Someone in the school returned a check they found on the ground to the office. ( If you’re wondering how I know this, I was the one who lost the check)
Perseverance- Avery not only held the door open for me but for lots of others too. Abraham Lara offered to help a student with their homework. Mr. Whitney is always smiling and making you feel happy.
Compassion- Another student helped pick up my stuff after she bumped into me. Jayden Reeper ran ahead of me to open the door for me. Josh Sales is always being kind to me and others.
These core values help our school become a better place. When everyone is working to have Courage, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect and Compassion it makes everyone feel welcome. These values not only help our school to be a better place, but they prepare us to be better people after we leave junior high. What would the world be like if we all lived by these values?
