Jonathan Lawrence - New Vice Principal

Submitted by scott.buck on

Diamond Fork Junior High is fortunate to have Jonathan Lawrence as our new vice principal. Recently he shared some fun questions and answers about himself, so take a moment and get to know Mr. Lawrence, and when you see him in the hall say hello!

Who is your favorite Super Hero?
Spider-Man. Normal kid receives extraordinary powers. Comes from
troubled house, but rises above the drama. He’s not perfect, and has
his flaws like all of us. He recognized his gift and sought to use it
for good.

What is your favorite candy bar?
Abba-Zaba. Peanut butter filled taffy. Heavenly.

What is your favorite soda?
When I have one, Seven-Up or Sprite. Sometimes, I like to burp.

What is one of your pet peeves?
Lazy people. We all have the ability to do our best, but some choose
to the absolute minimum.

If you didn’t work in education, what would you do for a living?
I’d probably a full-time writer. I’ve written a bit, but just don’t
have the time to devote to my stories. If I could block out a few
hours a day, that would be awesome. I also love doing woodworking, so
something that ties the two together. I’ve made lots of library
bookcases, bookmarks and turned wood pens.

What is your favorite movie?
Up. So cute seeing the old guy be nostalgic. Good lesson about growing
old on the outside, but being young on the inside.

What is your favorite color?
Green. To me it represents life and potential.

If you could be an animal, what would you choose?
Probably a monkey! They seem to make up their own fun and are easily
entertained. I have some monkeys in my office. They make me laugh.

What would you do if you inherited millions of dollars?
Take care of my family, save, invest and explore my hobbies. I
wouldn’t be a scrooge, but I wouldn’t be giving it away like some do
to try and buy friends. I have plenty of friends.

Little known facts?
I lived for two years in Siberia. Ran a marathon without training! In
high school my mile PR was under 5 minutes. Just did Ragnar (200 mile
relay) in Las Vegas a couple weeks ago. Also, I’m the only child of
only children – no cousins!

Greatest achievement?
My wife and children. I have a boy that’s turning 12 and a daughter
that is almost a year and a half. Second to them is my own education.
Neither of my parents went to college. I’m 2/3 of the way through my
doctorate in Educational Leadership.

What do you like best about your job?
I love helping students and parents find solutions to problems.
Whether grades, attendance or behavior, when parents, students and the
school work together to work through situations there is amazing
potential for significant, long-lasting results. I want students to
take control and responsibility for their education. I also love how
no two days are the same. Every day I come to school is unique and
engaging.

Welcome to Diamond Fork Mr. Lawrence!
