Words cannot even begin to describe the best librarian in the world- but if they could it would be Ellen-Anita Olson at Diamond Fork. Reading nights and weekends, it is not an exaggeration to bet that Ellen-Anita has read ever young adult book in our library. She can personally recommend a book based on a student’s personality and reading preferences. Pre-ordering and deal seeking, she gets the next book in the series for our avid readers even before the bookstores. English teachers bring their students in for her engaging book talks and critiques of the latest new reads. Before school, E-Time and at lunch, the most popular student spot in our school is the library. Famous all across the state, visitors flock to Diamond Fork to view her makerspaces. Students are creating or using models, puzzles, button-making, circuit boards, robotics, etc. Her library makerspaces provide creative time for students to build prototypes, explore questions, fail and retry, bounce ideas off one another and build something together. STEM education is happening in our library! She is a frequent guest speaker as just this week she was featured at the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading. She is the district leader for library PLC’s as well as the state. Partnering with Spanish Fork City Library, she hosts a teen advisory board. And this year she has added Battle of the Books, a reading incentive program where students have fun competing with their peers. But, oh no, that is not all, Ellen-Anita serves the faculty every Friday with a “Library Pop-In,” where she personally selects teachers favorite drinks and has them on ice waiting for an informal Friday get together in the library for the faculty after a long, hard week! She highlights faculty members on their birthdays as well. Yet, even more, she takes care of all of the equipment inventory for the school with amazing detail and organizational skills. When we want to know who has what or where to find something, we go to Ellen-Anita. If ever there was a Super Nebo Hero, it is Ellen-Anita Olson!
