Poetry Out Loud

Submitted by scott.buck on

On Thursday, May 2nd, seventh grade students at Diamond Fork Junior High assembled together to cheer on their fellow classmates who were selected to represent their English class.  As a school activity every 7th grader selected a poem to not only memorize but "perform" for
their English class.  Students in every one of the 10 English classes at the school selected one student to represent them in the Poetry Out Loud assembly.  These students were judged by a published author, a drama treacher, a librarianr, and a vice principal.  Everyone agreed that the performers were well-prepared and ready to impress the audience.

Cheers broke out as one by one the 10 class representatives took to the stage to perform their chosen poem.  Some poems were sad, some were happy, many were quite funny, but all of them were performed with skill.  The judges had a difficult task making final decisions, but when the dust had cleared Noah Ralphs took 3rd place, Josh Sales secured 2nd place, and Nicole Cook won 1st place.  Everyone who participated won a 2 liter soda and a candy bar, as well as a sense of accomplishment for finding the courage to perform in front of 400 fellow students.  Congratulations to all.
