On September 1st, 2015, Our Science Classes had their Paper Rocket Lab.  Students used a paper template to create a rocket and see how far it would fly.  They then changed a variable on the rocket to see if it would fly farther!  They could add length, weight (with paper clips or pennies), wings, fins, or change the pressure or angle on the launcher.  They got to create 3 different rockets with their partners and see how far they could make it fly!  Everyone learned a lot about how it is important to only change one variable at a time so they know which variable made it work better, and that the engineering process involves a lot of trial-and-error, but it's important to keep close track of changes you made!  Many also learned that a penny or two really helps the rocket fly farther, but 10 or 20 weighs it down a bit too much!  Ms. Nance learned (again) that teaching 8th graders is the BEST, and that next time, we need a bigger place than a 24-meter gym!!!
