Star Tutoring At DFJHS

Submitted by scott.buck on

A group of ninth graders at Diamond Fork Junior High School recently volunteered to tutor their seventh grade peers in reading.  These tutors meet with their seventh grade students twice a week during e-time, the school's remediation and enrichment period, which is held during the school day.  The tutors help these readers improve their comprehension, fluency, and writing with a lot of guided practice.

Each tutor’s goal by the end of the school year is to help their students learn how to understand their reading better and enjoy their reading more.  Star Tutoring program leader Lori Salazar-Gehrke commented, “It helps our students because the practice is not just about reading, but also includes comprehension.  You can read something and get nothing out of it if you don’t understand what you're reading.”  Congratulations Star Tutoring members - keep up the good work.
