If anyone in your family is randomly selected your student will be awarded a gift card of their choice. All you need to do is like or follow us on one of our official sites. National Junior Honor Society: In light of all the human and natural disasters and calamities in the world today, our DFJHS National Jr. Honor Society would like to help prepare our school for emergency situations.

Our members recently inventoried each classroom to check for stocked first aid kits and disaster bins.  Some of the classrooms received preparedness bins a few years ago but many don’t have one.  The perishable items in those bins have never been rotated and the supplies in them are very minimal.  Some rooms don’t have first aid kits. Our honor society would like to remedy that by securing a well-stocked bin and first aid supplies for each classroom in our school.  Our plan is to make this an ongoing project for our Honor Society by rotating the food and water each spring and using those for our school Fitness Day 5K Run and then restocking the bins with fresh items each fall when school starts.  We are hoping that you will help us in our efforts to make our school better prepared. We will have a booth set up during Parent-Teacher conferences to collect cash donations.  The money will be used to purchase essential items for the emergency bins and first aid kits. We thank you in advance for your support in helping us with this project!!!

Bus Lanes: Just a friendly reminder to all parents picking up and dropping off your students. We have designated the North Parking lot to our bus zone. We would like to kindly ask our parents to use either the East or the West parking lot for their pick up and drop off zones. This will help us ensure student safety in not having them cross the parking lot either in front of or behind the busses. Thank you for your help!

School Community Council: The next DFJHS SCC meeting will be held November 11, 2015 at 3:00 in the counseling office conference room. Anyone is welcome to attend and your input is invited and welcome.

OverDrive Online Library Book Access: Diamond Fork Junior in conjunction with Nebo School District is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are pleased to introduce a new, free reading service providing digital books through OverDrive (nebo.lib.overdrive.com). OverDrive is active now.  Why OverDrive?

The OverDrive collection is an extension of our physical library, only it’s online with 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks. It’s convenient for students to check out titles at home, on the weekends or during school breaks with no worry about misplacing a book or running up late fees – these digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period! OverDrive can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension.  Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service.

 Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation

 Introduce students to books above their reading level

  Teach critical listening

 Help busy kids find time to read

How does it work? To use OverDrive, students browse our secure custom website, borrow books with their student computer login information, and enjoy anytime, anywhere on a computer, tablet, smartphone or eReader. Whether a student’s interest lies in study guides, classics for required reading, or the latest popular juvenile or young adult fiction, they can find it all in the digital collection through OverDrive at nebo.lib.overdrive.com.

Where can I find more information? Feel free to contact the librarian any time.

Parents of ninth graders: The Regents Scholarship program is a wonderful scholarship for students who meet the standards listed in the Regents Scholarship brochure:

 http://higheredutah.org/pdf/scholarship/RS/ProgramGuide15.pdf

Students who qualify for this scholarship by taking the required courses and by maintaining a high GPA can receive up to $6,400 to be used for education expenses at a college or university in Utah.  The Regents Scholarship program has many time sensitive steps that are frequently overlooked, and this causes several students to miss out on the scholarship.  In addition,

some details are not shared with school counselors.  To address this issue, the Scholarship Manager, Carrie Beckam, sends the following invitation:

We are now scheduling Regents’ Scholarship consultation meetings. They will be begin September 22  and continue through October. We hope that you can let students you work with know about this opportunity. These appointments are for students/parents to come and meet with a scholarship representative at our office to learn more about the scholarship, have their transcripts reviewed and receive answers to their questions. Our target students are  9th and 10th graders. To sign up students can go to www.regentsschoalrship.org. Once they have signed up they will have the address and directions of what to bring. If you have a student that cannot come to our office, they can always email their questions to us atregentsscholarship [at] ushe.edu (regentsscholarship[at]ushe[dot]edu) or call 801-321-7159.
