Latin Appreciation Week at DFJHS has been Educational, Entertaining and a bit SPICY!

Submitted by bart.thompson on

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, DFJHS has been celebrating Latin Appreciation Week here at school. We've had daily announcements with Latin American facts, trivia questions and fun! Each day at lunch, we have had various fun activities to celebrate various aspects of Latin American culture, history and cuisine!  Whether it was making paper flowers, participating in a Concha eating contest or watching teachers sweat through a SPICY eating contest, our appreciation and knowledge of Latin American culture has grown this week!

Rockets at DFJHS!

Submitted by bart.thompson on

Mr. Sorensen's Science classes spent the day building and launching paper rockets down the hallway! They learned all about what made a good rocket, then jumped in and used trial and error to figure out the best way to launch their spacecraft! Way to go Diamondbacks!

Spanish Fork Police Dog visits DFJHS

Submitted by bart.thompson on

Mr Hansen's Small Animal Science classes had the wonderful opportunity today to be visited by Officer Bret Smith and Maverick, a K-9 officer unit here in Spanish Fork.

Our very own Officer Cory Lewis "took one for the team" by putting on the bite suit and letting Maverick chomp into him.  He was a good sport, although he'll certainly be bruised and sore tomorrow!

Thanks to SFPD for all you do for our community!

Spanish Fork Resident Celebrates 101st Birthday with Help from DFJHS Students

Submitted by bart.thompson on

Mark McKell, a lifelong Spanish Fork resident, turned 101 today.  As Diamondbacks, we decided we wanted to help him celebrate! So last Friday, during Team Time, our students made Birthday Cards for our neighbor.  We ended up with over 1000 cards!

Today a group of student leaders had the opportunity to walk down the street to deliver our cards and to spend a few minutes visiting. It was a wonderful experience for all who participated! Mr. McKell was touched deeply by our efforts.  Way to go Diamondbacks!
