Dear Diamond Fork Parents,

Teacher Appreciation Week: The PTA sponsored a teacher appreciation week last week which included special messages and treats for teachers, a breakfast and a lunch during the week to show our teachers how much they are appreciated. We thank the PTA for all of their efforts!

DIAMONDBACK GEMS

Valentine Dance:

The Valentine Dance will be held on Thursday, February 12th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We will serve punch and cookies during the dance.

4H Nebo After School Program:

DFJHS offers 4-H After School Clubs to all students. We just began a new set of clubs this week that include Journalism, Rockets, Games: Unplugged, Starts, Diamondbacks in Action, Cupcakes, Ping-Pong, Merit Badge Workshop, Comic Books, Rock Band, Magic the Gathering, Yoga, Young Authors, and Homework. There is something for everyone! The cost is $5 per club and clubs run between 3 and 10 weeks. This is a fun way to engage our students in learning with a twist – and sometimes a treat.

Also, before each club begins, students receive an after school snack to get them ready for their club! Check out club details on our website at http://dfjhs.nebo.edu/content/nebo-4-h-afterschool-program

Nebo School District Chess Tournament:

It is time for our Nebo School District Chess Tournament coming up on Saturday February 28th. Information is available in the office. Chess often fills a niche for students that don't always otherwise have a place to shine! Registration information is available in the office and is also posted on the District website. There is also additional information at dfjhs.nebo.edu/announcements

Library:

The library currently has book order forms. If you would like to order books, pick up the forms in the library and order by February 25th.

Drama:

Aladdin rehearsals run every weekday after school. Please check your calendars and listen for announcements daily of who will be required to rehearse.

Midterm:

Term 3 Midterm is Friday, February 20th. Please check your student’s SIS for current grades and missing assignments.

7th Grade CTE Trimester Change:

The CTE trimester will end on February 25th, the day before Parent Teacher Conferences. Because of that, parents won't need to visit with their child's past CTE teacher, since the grades will be finalized for the trimester. And there will not be a need to visit with the new CTE teacher. This conference conflict happens just once a year. Please make sure your child has all missing assignments to their current CTE teacher before the trimester change.

SPORTS:

MMHS Boys Tennis:

Attention all 9th grade athletes in the MMHS boundary interested in trying out for Maple Mountain High School Boys Tennis Team. Tryouts will be held February 25-27, 2015 at 3pm at the MMHS Tennis Courts. If it is raining or snowing tryouts will be at 5pm at the indoor facility in Spanish Fork. You MUST have a physical BEFORE trying out and bring the signed doctor's form to tryouts. Also, each athlete must register for tryouts on RegisterMyAthlete.com. If you have any questions email Coach Rose at kamryn.rose [at] nebo.edu (kamryn[dot]rose[at]nebo[dot]edu).

MMHS Track and Field:

Attention 9th grade student in the MMHS boundaries: MMHS Track and Field practice starts on February 23rd at 3pm on the MMHS outside track. There will be a team meeting on Wednesday, February 25th at 3:00pm in the auxiliary gym at MMHS.

DFJHS Track and Field:

Coach Charles has formed an after school club focusing on sprinting forms, drills and mechanics along with speed and agility drills. Club is held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through February 19.

Did you know… Our counseling department is currently meeting with EVERY student in the school to go over their College and Career Readiness Plan? Many parents have already met with their child and a counselor to review class options. If you have not done so already, the counseling department will be contacting you for a meeting. We appreciate parent involvement in their child’s educational plan and know how important it is to each student.
