Students in Mr. Buck's English class recently completed their reading of The Westing Game. In this novel the main character researches and invests in stocks in her search to solve a murder. Just like the character in The Westing Game, students in the class were give $10,000 (imaginary) dollars to invest in any stock traded in the United States.
The competition was tough as students breathlessly watched their individual stocks rise and fall for 4 weeks. When it was all over many students had made significant (imaginary) money. In lieu of their profits the top earning students were give a dozen doughnuts to triumphantly devour in front of their less-fortunate fellow students. The top 3 students were Trevor Perkins who invested in Sony, Muriel Langdon who invested in Netflix, and Lexi Kearns who invested in Groupon. Many students showed a great desire to learn more about financial markets and begin their own investment program. Congratulations and good luck to all who participated.
