 DIAMONDBACK GEMS

**Still Happening! SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN**:  Parents, Grandparents, Siblings and Students we need your help! Diamond Fork Junior High has set a goal to reach as many followers on social media as possible, and there is even a reward! Every Friday our student council will randomly select 3 social media followers to receive a Coldstone or iTunes gift card. If anyone in your family is randomly selected your student will be awarded a gift card of their choice. All you need to do is like or follow us on one of our official sites. Instagram: DFJHSJunior1 Facebook: Diamond Fork Junior High Official https://www.facebook.com/Official-Diamond-Fork-Junior-High-School-114367598668747/timeline/ or Twitter: DFJHS1 Thank you for your help and support of our students and faculty at DFJHS!  We are currently 504 likes and counting, be the next one that counts!

Scholarship: "Information for the $1000 Spirit of Community scholarship is available in the counseling office.  Any student that has given volunteer service can apply.  Students will need to apply on-line @ http://www.nassp.org/tabid/2539/default.aspx.  Students can also pick up an information sheet in the counseling office.  The deadline is November 3, only a few weeks away."

Book Fair & Maker Fair: The Book Fair will go from Nov. 6 - 11. Nov. 6 will be in-store, including the Maker Fair from 5 - 7 pm. This is a great opportunity for students to show off their talents (ie: sculpting, painting, drawing, science fair project.) Sign up in the library for the Maker Fair. The Maker Fair in conjunction with the Book Fair is a great opportunity for the students to share their talents and interests. Local artists will also be available at the store Nov. 6th and 7th. The Book Fair will benefit all the students and teachers at the school by giving us an opportunity to add more books in our library.

Here is a code for the students and parents to use at the Barnes and Noble Book Fair/Maker Fair.: 11727807 Bookmarks for all the students will be available in the office and in the library. Please use this code in-store and online for the duration of the book fair.

Intramurals: Congratulations to the Intramural champs "we re 2 beast" who remained undefeated after defeating the faculty 2-0. Great job Edgar Solis, Rio Cruz, Freddy, Alexis Baez, William Solarzano, Gionvanni Castillo, and Adam Jensen and whoever else that Mr. Charles forgot to mention. Great job!

Also today ping pong intramural begins. This week is singles only. Any student interested can meet in the boy's gym right after school.

Boys Basketball: Any 9th grade boys who are interested in trying out for the 2015-2016 9th grade basketball team, there will be an open gym starting Tuesday, October 20th from 3:00-4:00 in the boys gym. Open gyms will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday until tryouts.

Nebo 4-H Afterschool Clubs: Fall clubs will be wrapping up in November. Watch for new clubs after Christmas Break!

School Community Council: Our next DFJHS SCC meeting will be held November 11, 2015 at 3:00 in the counseling office conference room. Anyone is welcome to attend and your input is invited and welcome.

Online Coding Camps for Students: Interested in online computer coding?  Nebo District is offering after-school classes for students in grades 4-9 in various locations throughout the district.  Please click on the link for further information or to register for coding camps.

http://pub.lucidpress.com/nebocodingcamps/   These are camps taught by Nebo teachers in Nebo schools for Nebo kids but run through UVU community ed.  There are two intro camps which will run one day a week for 4 weeks beginning in Nov and another class beginning mid-Jan - intro classes are a $20 fee. There will also be an intermediate/advanced class beginning mid-Jan that runs for 8-10 weeks for a $45 fee.  I will ask you again to advertise early-Jan for those classes.  For those kids really into this, we will put together a Nebo competition team that will compete at UVU with other schools along the Wasatch Front on May 14 - UVU is hamming this up and making it a "big deal" event for the kids.
