I love science, especially anything that has to do with nature. I love to hike, camp, and bike. In my younger days I was always skateboarding and snowboarding. I chose to be a teacher after having a short career as a exploration geologist, for multiple reasons, but most importantly because I want to help students see how fun science can be.
I have been teaching for 14 years in Nebo School District but this is my first year at Diamond Fork Jr High. Teaching is a challenging and rewarding field to be in and I love it! I am passionate about reading and writing and love to see a child's eyes light up when they discover a good book. I love to call Utah Valley my home. I graduated from BYU-Idaho, UVU, and received my Masters from U of U (insert gasp here)! I love to travel and my hobbies include playing the piano, sewing, pottery, collecting books, and playing handbells with Bells on Temple Square.
This is my first year working at Diamond Fork Jr. High and I am thrilled to be here! I am currently a graduate student at the U of U working to earn a Master's degree in School Counseling and I will graduate in April 2019. Some of my favorite things to do are hiking, baking, and playing board games. I was able to have several adventures this summer but the one that I enjoyed the most was attending the Shakespeare Festival down in Cedar City. I am so excited to get to know everyone at DFJHS this year!
I've enjoyed teaching for 31 years in Nebo School District at both Payson Jr and at Springville High. I decided retirement would be more fun exploring science with Diamondback students so... I'm back! I like to rack up the miles road cycling, relax on a mountain stream fly fishing, gaze at the heavens through my telescope, and explore the nature of our great outdoors.
My name is Hailey Neumiller and I will be teaching 9th grade biology and 7th grade science this year! I just graduated from BYU in April and I am so excited to share my passion for the study of life! I am originally from Star, Idaho so I grew up playing outside with my 3 younger sisters and farming potatoes (just kidding, we could barely keep our garden alive). I love animals and my family had 2 cats, a chihuahua and a rabbit, as well as periodic squirrels - long story. I learned how to ski when I was 2 years old and I haven't missed a season since.
Hello! My name is Calleen Spencer. I am excited to join Diamond Fork Jr. High! I have spent the past 6 years teaching 6th grade in Salem and am looking forward to making the jump to teach 8th grade math this year.
My name is Melissa Hessing. I am born and raised in Utah, and graduated from Brigham Young University. I love history, but I'm not very good at math, unless I'm doubling fractions in a recipe for Texas Sheet Cake. Being outdoors is my happy place, skiing in winter, boating in summer, and whatever else can get me outside is what I always want to be doing. love traveling, especially camping, and going on any new adventure possible, especially if I get to drag my husband and daughter around.
All parents and students are welcome to attend the Diamond Fork annual Meet and Greet Day from 3: 00 pm to 5:00 pm on August 20th, the day before school starts. Teachers will be in there classrooms to say, "Hello." Students can walk through their schedules, ask questions, try lockers, etc. Hope to see you there! It's a great day to be a Diamondback!
All Diamond Fork incoming 7th Graders are invited to attend 7th Grade Day from 8am to 10:45am on Monday, August 20th, the day before the first day of school. Bus students may ride the bus this day. Students will go to each class on their schedule and learn about lockers, lunch, activities, and much more! We have a welcome gift for each student. It's a great day to be a Diamondback!
